Last Saturday I went to see Badly Drawn Boy at Metro. Unfortunately I was busy making my stomach happy so I came there a bit late and missed the opener, Adem. However, the good side is I need to wait only a few minutes before the show getting started.

Damon Gough appeared with the look we’re so familiar. He started with Time of Times and Welcome to the Overground. Then decreasing the tempo with Nothing’s Gonna Change Your Mind and Journey from A to B. Before bring us back with Degree of Separation and then reach the peak in this session with Born in The U.K. All first six tracks are from his latest record but it seems many people there are not much aware of this album.

The show went in a great feeling. He’s playful and funnier than I ever imagined. I enjoyed the show which is about two hours and a half. Actually he didn’t want to stop yet but with the limited of the venue, so he had to stop it at 24 songs!

When talking about Badly Drawn Boy. I think everyone or at least me sick with the mentioned about his first success record, The Hour of Bewilderbeast. Even though it is about seven years passed. Well, this is a different story.

I was at my friend’s house playing a game when I first listened to this record. We usually open the music while playing a game in his room. And for those who was not playing, will be in charge of the music. My friend showed me The Hours of Bewilderbeast cd and described how beautiful it is before put it in a player. Unfortunately, I was on the pitch and even worse was I started losing in a row. Do you see the point?

Although a little time later, I have a chance to watch Disillusion music video. And I really love it but that’s all I remembered about him.

As time goes by, there is a film named About a Boy which is created based on the book of the same name. It becomes one of the top three film, I watched most frequently. Silent Sigh and Something To Talk About are really beautiful. So I give him a second chance, I borrowed a soundtrack cd and start listening. Well, it’s good but not great for me at that time.

Until last year, in a very rare occasion, I listened to the radio. There’s a song on the air which is really nice. After that song end, DJ told me (audience) that it’s a Badly Drawn Boy track from The Hours of Bewilderbeast. And this is the only his/her favorite album of Badly Drawn Boy. Somehow, it was such an interfering for me. So I start wondering, are other Badly Drawn Boy records such a really bad? So I gave him another try with his latest record, Born in the U.K.

The track named, Born in the U.K. really gave me a big surprise and became a good lead to the other tracks. I count this record as one of my last year’s favorite album. Then I start listening to The Hours of Bewilderbeast and About a Boy soundtrack again. Since then, I have to say that I was really wrong.

Then I start to wonder if there is anything else?
